NBI Clearance Renewal 2026
If you already have an NBI Clearance online and want an updated certificate or want to renew an expired one, you can renew it online instead of starting a completely new application. You may not have to visit the office or stand in long queues for hours. For eligible renewals, you can complete the process from the comfort of your home.
The official portal offers an NBI Clearance Online Renewal option for eligible previous clearances. There is also eClearance through the eGovPH Super App, which gives eligible applicants another digital option.
The renewal option available to you depends on your previous certificate, the method you choose, and your eligibility. This guide covers the available options, requirements, steps, fees, and what to do if you have an older certificate.
How NBI Clearance Renewal Works
Renewal option is for those applicants who already have a previous clearance record. Instead of completing the full process as a new applicant, eligible users can use their existing clearance details to start a renewal.
The current online portal allows users to register using a clearance issued from 2014 onward, if you are eligible for renewal.
If your previous certificate does not qualify for online renewal, you can follow the standard application process instead.
Who Can Renew a Clearance?
The online portal currently provides a renewal option for existing clearances. It also provides renewal to those who had their clearance issued from 2014 onward.
Before starting, check whether:
- You have a previous clearance
- Your previous clearance falls within the period accepted for renewal
- Your personal information is still accurate
- The renewal option is available for your record
If the online renewal option is not available, you can apply as a new applicant.
How to Renew NBI Clearance Online

Check your name, date of birth, address, civil status, and other personal details before continuing.
If any information has changed, check the latest instructions before completing the transaction.
4. Follow the Renewal Instructions

5. Complete the Payment
Choose the available payment method and complete the transaction. Keep your payment confirmation or Reference Number for your records.
For more details, see our NBI Clearance Fee & Payment guide.
6. Wait for Your Clearance
Once the transaction is completed, your renewed certificate may be processed for delivery, depending on the service available to you.
Keep your transaction and delivery details until the certificate arrives.
Can I Renew My Clearance Through eGovPH?
Yes. In July 2026, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Information and Communications Technology launched eClearance on the eGovPH Super App.
According to the bureau, eligible users can use the service to retrieve, renew, and access a digital copy of their clearance. The renewal process can take as little as five minutes for eligible users.
Since this is a new digital service, it may not be available to everyone. Availability depends on your eligibility and account.
NBI Clearance Renewal Requirements
Before you start the renewal, check that your previous clearance is eligible for this process.
You must have these details and items ready:
- Your previous clearance details
- An active account or registration information
- Correct personal information
- The required payment
- Any additional information requested by the current system
For the complete ID and document requirements, see our NBI Clearance Requirements 2026 guide.
What If My Information Has Changed?
If any of your personal information has changed, it can affect how your renewal is processed.
For example, your:
- Address
- Civil status
- Other personal details
If the information on your previous clearance is no longer correct or has been chnged, check the latest renewal instructions before submitting your application.
The agency’s mailed-renewal instructions specifically cover changes such as address and civil status. These changes should be indicated on your previous clearance.
If your situation requires a new application instead of a regular renewal, follow the current instructions for that process.
Can I Renew an Expired Clearance?
An expired clearance does not always mean you have to start a new application from the beginning.
What matters is whether your previous clearance qualifies for the current renewal service.
The official portal provides an online renewal option for eligible previous clearances, including those issued from 2014 onward. If the renewal option is not available for your record, you can follow the standard application process instead.
What If My Clearance Was Issued Before 2014?
Older certificates may be handled differently depending on the renewal method you choose.
For applications made from abroad through the mailed-clearance process, certificates issued before 2014 are treated as new applications. Certificates issued from 2014 onward may be renewed through this process.
For online renewal, check the option available in the official portal instead of assuming that an older certificate is eligible.
NBI Clearance Renewal vs. New Application
The two options are used in different situations.
| Clearance Renewal | New Clearance Application |
| For applicants with an existing clearance | For first-time applications or cases treated as new |
| Uses an existing clearance record | Starts the standard application process |
| May be completed online | Follows the regular online application |
| Depends on whether the previous clearance is eligible | Does not rely on an eligible previous clearance |
For the complete new-application process, see NBI Clearance Application 2026.
Do I Have to Visit a Branch for Renewal?
Not necessarily.
Eligible online renewal services are designed to make the process easier without a standard branch visit. The current online portal offers renewal, while eClearance through eGovPH provides another digital option for eligible users.
Follow the instructions shown for your particular transaction. If additional processing is required or online renewal is not available for your record, a different procedure may apply.
For branch appointments related to a new application, see NBI Appointment 2026.
